Skeletons…

Year 3 have learned all about different skeletons in science and how different animals (including humans) move. They have used their knowledge, alongside research on the chrome books to create some excellent non-fiction pieces of writing.

Year 6 have been learning how to write in a biographical style.

While learning the features of a biography, we learnt about Charles Dickens from his birth to when he died and the legacy he left behind. Through drama work, and imagining a conversation between an interviewer and Charles Dickens, the class explored possible answers to questions he might have been asked. Year 6 learnt about his novels and novellas and also the highs and lows of his life. From this, Year 6 moved to independently writing about Charles Darwin, his life and the legacy he left behind.

What are rocks and fossils like?

Year 3 have shown their amazing knowledge about rocks, fossils and soil in their non-fiction explanation text. They have shown their brilliant understanding of types of rocks, how fossils are made and why soil is important.

Let the Big Write begin…

After a week of planning and editing, we are ready to write our first Big Write of Year 6 based on the ideas in The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas where two characters from different background meet up with each other. We used the wider curriculum topic of World War 2 and what we had learnt about evacuation to create a setting and a purpose for our writing. Reading these amazing pieces of work is highly recommended.

Phonics and Dough Disco

We are always working hard at practising our writing and fine motor skills in Reception. We enjoy our daily Phonics sessions along with dough disco and writing challenges indoors and outside. This year we have introduced our ‘Big Write’ on a Friday where we all write together on a big roll of paper all the sounds and tricky words we can remember from Phonics. We have made some amazing progress already in our Reading and Writing with some of us writing sentences already!
