Year 6 used the analogy of sending a letter to understand that just as we put an address and a postcode on a letter, each computer has a unique IP (Internet Protocol) address which is made easier to remember by turning this into a DNS (Domain Name Server). Year 6 learnt that a protocol was a rule that a computer follows, and this enables computers to communicate to one another (the computer has to agree to communicate with other devices).
What is the difference between a DNS and an IP address?
