Read MoreWelcome to Year 6
Who are we?
My name is Mr Kilner and I am the Year Six teacher. I also work with Mrs Parker who will be working with individuals and groups of children throughout the year.
Reading!
In Year Six we love to read! We start each day with a reading session, where we build and deepen our understanding of different content domains. We also allow children time throughout the day to read to an adult. Reading with your child as often as possible is very beneficial and essential for progress. Your child will have opportunity to change their books in schools, linked to their reading age.
PE
The children will be doing PE on a Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days. For health and safety reasons, your child should not wear jewellery on these days, especially earrings. Due to the weather, PE lessons may be indoors or outdoors and this can change regularly.
Homework
Homework is set every Friday. This will include our weekly spelling patterns and words that the children will then be tested on the following week. There is also an expectation that children reading daily and practice their times tables daily. In addition, a piece of maths work may be sent, covering the work that we have done in class that week. In the wider curriculum, your child will be provided with their knowledge organiser that gives children all of the essential knowledge they must have to deepen their understanding in school. Additional work will be sent in Year Six to support SATS preparation.
If you have any questions about this year, then please do not hesitate to ask us, we are more than happy to help on any matter big or small!
